7 days Fez to Marrakech

In this route, we have the opportunity to visit two of the most visited cities for their important cultural heritage. Additionally, it gives us the chance to cross the beautiful Atlas Mountains and venture into the depths of the Sahara Desert, where you will discover the impressive dunes of Merzouga, and even sleep in the desert in traditional tents with a spectacular view of the starry sky.

Itinerary

DAY 1: TRANSFER TO THE HOTEL IN FEZ

Upon arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Accommodation in Fez.

DAY 2: EXPLORE FEZ

This morning is reserved for exploring Fez, the oldest imperial city in Morocco. We will visit the Medina of Fez el-Bali, one of the largest medieval sites preserved in the world, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site over 30 years ago. After the Medina, we will head to the Karawiyin Mosque, belonging to the Karawiyin University, the oldest in history, founded in the year 880. Accommodation at the Fez hotel.

DAY 3: EXPLORE FEZ

From Fez, we will pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains, making a stop in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Africa. The next town will be Azrou, passing through the national park known for its cedar trees where the famous monkeys of the area are found. Then, we will travel through the Ziz Valley leading us to Erfoud, known for its fossils. Upon arrival in the desert, we will take a camel ride through the desert until reaching the heart of the desert where we will be welcomed, according to Sahara tradition, with Berber tea. Dinner and drum party at the Sahara camp.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA DESERT – TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY

You’re in the desert! Today, it’s essential to wake up early to watch the sunrise from the top of the dunes and take a camel ride back to the lodge for breakfast and a shower. We’ll leave the dunes behind and head to Tinghir where we will visit the Todra Gorges, an ancient sewer system from the 15th century. We’ll also take a look at the palm grove of Tinghir, and then arrive at the Todra Gorges where we’ll rest. Next, we’ll walk through the town and the Boumalne Dades valley to reach the Dades Gorges. There, the river has eroded the rocks to create a beautiful landscape. Dinner and accommodation in the Dades valley.

DAY 5: DADES VALLEY – OUARZAZATE – AIT BENHADDOU – HIGH ATLAS – MARRAKECH

We’ll cross the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses until we reach Ouarzazate, where we’ll visit the Taourirt Kasbah. After 25 km, we’ll see the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for being the backdrop for cinematic productions like “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Sheltering Sky”, or “Babel”. We’ll continue on the road that crosses the Tichka pass (High Atlas) back to the “Red City”, Marrakech. You can go out in the evening to have a first contact with the city. DAY 6: EXPLORE MARRAKECH

After breakfast, we have a guided tour of the city of Marrakech, starting with the Koutoubia Minaret (12th century), sister to the Giralda of Seville. Then, we’ll visit the Saadian Tombs (16th century), highlighting its central vault made of Carrara marble. Next, we’ll visit the Bahia Palace (19th century), an example of aristocratic life in medieval Muslim society, with its ambassador’s hall featuring a cedar wood ceiling. Finally, we’ll head to the “Jemaa el F’naa Square”, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

DAY 7: TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT

At the agreed time, we’ll transfer you to Marrakech airport. END OF OUR SERVICES AND HAVE A SAFE TRIP BACK (2 hours before the flight).

NOTE: AN EXTRA DAY CAN BE ADDED TO THIS ITINERARY TO SPEND TWO NIGHTS IN THE DESERT FOR AN EXPERIENCE TO MEET THE NOMADS LIVING IN THE DESERT AND DO MORE ACTIVITIES.
