8 days Fez to Marrakech with Chefchaouen

From Fez, we’ll drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, making a stop in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Africa. The next town will be Azrou, passing through the national park known for its cedar trees where the famous monkeys of the area are found. Next, we’ll travel through the Ziz Valley leading us to Erfoud, known for its fossils. Once we reach the desert, we’ll take a camel ride through the desert to reach the heart of the desert where we’ll be welcomed, according to Sahara tradition, with Berber tea. Dinner and drum party at the Sahara camp.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Fez Hotel

Upon arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Accommodation in Fez.

Day 2: Visit Fez

After breakfast, we’ll begin our visit to the oldest of the imperial cities and spiritual center of the country. We’ll start with a panoramic view from one of the hills surrounding the city, then visit the bronze gates of the Royal Palace. We’ll explore the medina on foot, visiting Medersas (Qur’anic schools), workshops in the artisans’ quarter, divided by guilds, and the spectacular tannery district. Accommodation in Fez.

Day 3: Excursion to Chefchaouen (The Blue City)

After breakfast, we’ll head straight to Chefchaouen to visit the city, located within a biosphere reserve. Its streets painted in white and blue make it a village of wise, kind, and respectful people, offering beautiful urban panoramas, as well as precious examples of local craftsmanship and a peace and serenity that are hard to find today. In the afternoon, we’ll return to our destination, Fez. Accommodation in Fez.

Day 4: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Monkey Forest – Merzouga Desert

From Fez, we’ll drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Africa. The next town will be Azrou, passing through the national park known for its cedar trees where the famous monkeys of the area are found. Next, we’ll travel through the Ziz Valley leading us to Erfoud, known for its fossils. Upon arrival in the desert, we’ll take a camel ride through the desert to reach the heart of the desert where we’ll be welcomed, according to Sahara tradition, with Berber tea, dinner, and a drum party at the Sahara camp.

Day 5: Merzouga Desert – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

You’re in the desert! Today, it’s mandatory to wake up early to see the sunrise from the top of the dunes, and then have breakfast. We’ll leave the dunes behind and head towards Tinghir where we’ll visit the Todra Gorges, an ancient sewer system from the 15th century. We’ll also take a look at the palm grove of Tinghir, then continue to the Todra Gorges where we’ll rest. Next, we’ll walk through the city and the Boumalne Dades valley to reach the Dades Gorges. The river has eroded the rocks to create a beautiful landscape. Dinner and accommodation in Dades.

Day 6: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – High Atlas – Marrakech

We’ll cross the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses until we reach Ouarzazate where we’ll visit the Taourirt kasbah and then, after 25 km of road, we’ll see the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for being the setting for film productions like “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Sheltering Sky” or “Babel”. We’ll follow the road that crosses the Tichka pass (High Atlas) which will lead us back to the “Red City”, Marrakech. Here you can go out at night to have a first contact with the city. Day 7: Visit Marrakech

After breakfast, we have a guided tour of the city of Marrakech: Starting with the Koutoubia Minaret (13th century), sister of the Giralda in Seville, splendid harmony and currently the beacon and spiritual center of Marrakech. Then, we’ll visit the Saadian Tombs (16th century) highlighting its central vault of Carrara marble. Subsequently, we’ll visit the Bahia Palace (16th century), an example of aristocratic life in medieval Muslim times, and where its ambassador’s hall stands out, with its cedar wood ceiling. Then, on foot, we’ll head to the “Jemaa el F’naa Square” declared a World Heritage Site. (The city tour starts around 09:00 and ends around 13:00) Free afternoon Accommodation in Marrakech.

Day 8: Transfer to Marrakech Airport

At the agreed time, the transfer to Marrakech airport will be provided. END OF OUR SERVICES AND HAVE A SAFE RETURN TRIP (2 hours before flight).

Note: An additional day can be added to this itinerary to spend two nights in the desert for an experience of meeting the nomads living in the desert and doing more activities. The package can be quoted in different options, hotel categories from standard to luxury, group travel with more people, or private.
